More and more people are waking up to the truth that the system we live in — the so-called “Matrix” — was never built to nurture our souls, but to keep us trapped in cycles of stress, fear, and dependency.

I went through the whole conditioning system myself — twenty years of schooling and university, finishing with honors in my master’s degree in Environmental Systems Science with a major in Economics at a university in Austria. I did everything I was “supposed” to do: I was the good girl, the hard worker, the high achiever. Yet in my late twenties, I started to break. My soul was hurting, and I didn’t know why.

That was my awakening — the moment I realized that success without soul is just another form of imprisonment.

Today, I want to help others who feel the same or who might be standing at that breaking point right now.

Here’s a how-to guide to break free from the Matrix system — and start creating a life that truly aligns with your higher self.

How to Get Out of the Matrix System

1. Wake Up & See the Programming

Recognize where society has conditioned you — school, media, jobs, and social expectations. Question everything you’ve been told is “normal” and gently ask yourself:

Does this truly serve my soul, or does it just keep me busy and afraid?

If you’re not yet able to see the conditioning or programming around you — if life still just feels “normal” — then your first step is to find tools that can help you open your eyes and heart.

There are many paths to awakening:

meditation, breathwork, Vipassana retreats, yoga retreats, and even laughing retreats. And if all of this still doesn’t feel enough, you might want to research the ancient medicines and practices that many tribes use to feel spiritually connected.

Please be very mindful, though, when exploring this path. Choosing the right guide, therapist, or facilitator is crucial. There are some black sheep out there, but if you keep your intention pure and stay on a mindful path, you will attract responsible, kind, and experienced guides who can support you exactly the way you need.

If you’d like to know more about my own chosen path, at the end of this article I share some private details about my awakening — but only for paid subscribers. This is information that shouldn’t be fully public, as it touches areas that live in the grey zones of the legal system we’re in.

2. Detox Your Mind

Reduce your exposure to fear-based news, toxic media, and energy-draining people. These constant inputs feed anxiety, stress, and a sense of powerlessness.

You can still stay up to date with what’s happening in the world, but consider choosing quick, concise updates instead of watching the broad, often overwhelming news coverage.

Feed your mind with uplifting, high-frequency content — books, music, podcasts, and voices that expand your awareness rather than limit it.

Surround yourself with ideas, stories, and perspectives that inspire curiosity, creativity, and joy.

Be mindful of what you consume daily, not just on purpose but also passively — scrolling social media, news alerts, or endless notifications can silently shape your thoughts and emotions. Create boundaries: schedule tech-free times, unfollow sources that drain you, and consciously choose content that nourishes your soul.

Practice mental hygiene alongside consumption: journaling your thoughts, reflecting on what truly matters, and noticing which ideas spark inspiration versus fear. Over time, your mind will become a fertile space for clarity, intuition, and conscious choice — a mind that no longer automatically feeds the system’s programming.

3. Reconnect with Your True Self

Practice daily stillness: meditation, breathwork, journaling, or simply being in nature. Your inner voice will always guide you if you make space to listen.

For breathwork, you can try techniques like box breathing (inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 4, hold for 4) or Anulom Vilom / alternate nostril breathing, which helps balance your energy and calm the mind. Even just 5–10 minutes a day can create clarity and presence. There are many powerful breathing techniques out there — explore and see what resonates with your being.

In meditation or journaling, focus on observing your thoughts without judgment, connecting with your feelings, or asking yourself guiding questions like:

What truly matters to me today? or Which thoughts are serving my growth, and which are draining me?

Spending time in nature — walking barefoot on grass, sitting by water, or simply noticing the sounds around you — can reset your nervous system and open your heart.

Over time, these daily practices cultivate a deep sense of inner guidance and alignment with your higher self.

4. Redefine Success

Redefining success starts with reflecting on your own values and what truly makes you feel alive.

Take time to journal about what fulfillment means to you personally. Ask yourself: If I had no expectations from society, family, or peers, what would I choose to do with my life?

Begin small, celebrating progress rather than perfection, and honor achievements that align with your soul rather than external standards.

5. Unplug Financially (Step by Step)

Unplugging financially is about taking control over your dependence on the system and reclaiming your freedom. Begin by noticing areas that drain you, whether it’s bills, subscriptions, or work that feels meaningless or exhausting. Awareness is the first step toward change.

Start by learning one self-sufficiency skill at a time. This could be cooking simple, nourishing meals, growing your own food, learning basic repairs, or exploring freelance and remote work options that allow you to earn while staying aligned with your values. Each small skill you master adds to your independence and confidence.

Set realistic financial goals that gradually increase your autonomy and reduce stress.

Even modest steps — paying off a small debt, reducing a subscription, or creating a tiny side income — build momentum toward bigger freedom.

Consider ways to reduce your living costs in the meantime, until you establish more sustainable income outside the system.

Simplifying your lifestyle, minimizing unnecessary expenses, and prioritizing what truly matters can give you breathing space, clarity, and energy to plan your next steps. Financial independence isn’t about instant wealth — it’s about creating stability and choice, and taking consistent steps toward a life that serves your soul.

6. Build Conscious Community

Building a conscious community means surrounding yourself with people who uplift and support you. Seek out like-minded individuals through groups, workshops, or circles aligned with your values. Even creating a small circle with friends where you can share experiences and support one another can make a real difference. Take time to reflect on who uplifts you and who drains you, and begin to prioritize the former while gently setting boundaries with the latter.

It is also perfectly okay to be a bit of a loner for a while if you need space from everything and everyone, to figure out what you truly want and who you want to be.

After changing your being and raising your vibration, you will naturally attract the people who truly align with you. Everything will come in its own time — there is no need to rush. Give yourself the grace and patience to allow this process to unfold.

7. Pursue Soul-Aligned Work

Pursuing soul-aligned work is about connecting with what truly energizes and inspires you.

Notice which tasks, projects, or creative outlets make you feel alive, and make time for at least one of these each week. Do what you love — try everything you’ve always wanted to do: sing, write, dance, jump up and down if it feels good. No boundaries, no judgment. This is your time to reconnect with your soul and your inner child. Play again. Rediscover how it feels to move, create, and simply be happy without worry.

Side projects, volunteering, or hobbies that align with your passions can open doors to independence, fulfillment, and growth.

Reflect honestly: Am I creating for joy, growth, and contribution, or out of fear, obligation, or expectation? Let your choices guide you toward alignment and freedom.

8. Strengthen Your Body and Energy

Strengthening your body and energy is essential to reclaiming your freedom.

Healthy mind = Healthy body

Healthy body = Healthy mind

Move your body daily through walking, stretching, dancing, or yoga, which helps release trapped stress and energy.

Practice grounding exercises, such as feeling your feet on the floor or visualizing roots connecting you to the earth.

Protect your energy by noticing when someone or something drains you and stepping back, mentally or physically, to maintain your balance.

9. Stay in a High Frequency

Staying in a high frequency requires conscious attention to what nourishes your mind and soul. Keep a gratitude journal and list three things each day that bring you joy or peace.

Incorporate creativity, play, and acts of service into your life, whether painting, writing, gardening, or helping others without expectation.

Observe which thoughts, people, and activities lift your energy and which drain it, and focus intentionally on what nourishes you.

You can also support your vibration with small rituals, like drinking uplifting herbal teas, meditating daily — once in the morning and once in the evening — and spending time doing what you love as often as you can.

10. Lead by Example

Leading by example is about living your truth unapologetically.

Make at least one choice each day that reflects your values, no matter how small. Share your journey authentically with those who are ready to listen, even if it is just a close friend or loved one. Ask yourself: Am I living my truth in even the simplest decisions today? Each choice in alignment with your soul sends ripples that inspire those around you and gradually weakens the system’s hold over life.

At the same time, set healthy boundaries and distance yourself from people who live in low vibration or are toxic to your personal growth.

Never forget!!!!

You deserve to be happy. You deserve everything you have ever dreamed of. You are a high-vibrational, spiritual being. Never stop believing in your strengths, your abilities, and your own inner magic.

Today, all of these points feel clear and logical to me, but it has been a long and sometimes difficult journey to reach where I am now. I am a free spirit and soon-to-be mother of three wonderful children — I am pregnant with my third at 42.

I live true to myself and work every day on becoming the best version of who I can be. I know that learning never stops, and there is still so much unknown ahead, yet I feel happier, more content, and more balanced than ever before.

Looking back at who I used to be and how I used to think still brings a twinge of sadness, because with the right guidance, much pain could have been avoided. But I also understand that pain is a part of life, and it is our reactions that shape the reality we experience.
