What Freedom Actually Feels Like
After a Decade of Chaos, I Found Peace
Who doesn’t think that quitting the 9–5 and still having enough money to live a sweet life sounds like a dream life? I was definitely one of them. I quit my 9–5 in 2015, and ever since, I have been self-employed as a content creator and yoga teacher (500 RYT) at times. The last decade was not easy, but today I live a life that I have always dreamed about. I have developed a flexible and positive mindset, and I have learned to control my reaction to the outside world and have eased my emotions, focusing on the positive ones like love, gratitude and joy.
Today, I want to share what a normal day of mine looks like.
I wake up when I want. I don’t need an alarm clock. In fact, I haven’t used one since I quit my job as an employee at a big radio station in Austria.
I love waking up with the first sun rays and the sound of birds. I live in Australia, New South Wales, on the coast now, so my reality has changed quite a bit compared to the much colder Austria.
After my hot morning drink, I like to sit down and write. If I don’t feel inspired yet, I can choose to go for a beach walk or even a quick swim in the ocean to reset. I love to meditate for at least a couple of minutes with the ocean waves as the perfect sound to tune in and become one with Source. I don’t mean this in any human-made religious way. I am very aware that we are all connected and that we are all one. Source is this energy that lives in all of us and carries all the magic.
Around midday, we cook together, and our kids love it. It’s messy, but it’s also fun.
Our kids are homeschooled, and while we use some online learning apps, we also spend about two to three hours each day sitting down with them, teaching in a fun and engaging way.
Our 7-year-old son is learning to play the ukulele and keyboard, he is learning about programming, and of course we also cover everything that’s part of the Australian curriculum. He’s doing really well, and we’re even a bit ahead of schedule without forcing anything.
Every day, I choose to do a 10- to 20-minute home-workout. I like to use online fitness videos on YouTube. Super easy, free, and I can do them whenever I have time. I also like to work with some weights. Even about 5 minutes a day has massively improved the strength in my arms.
We make sure that we eat as healthily as possible, organic and fresh food, but we also allow ourselves and our kids some cheat days.
I don’t need to follow a strict timetable, and I don’t have a boss that I have to answer to. I do what I like, when I like it, and I enjoy spending time with my family a lot. I love our kids. They are great little human beings with strong spirits, and it is a joy seeing them grow up with our guidance.
Of course, some days are harder than others. On some days, we get on each other’s nerves, but most of our days are just how I always hoped to live.
These days, I live a very peaceful, modest, but very happy life, and I can also see how I can still become very successful doing it my way.
This journey is intense, but now I live a life worth living.
Did I forget anything? Do you have any questions? Please let me know in the comments section.
I need to keep it short, my 3-month-old, our latest addition, needs mama :)
Take care.
Hugs,
Alina
